Like I said, I arrived in Nebraska Saturday noon and I’ve had such a great time! We went to see David’s parents who I’ve met before and we had “fika” (Swedish term used for “Coffee and something sweet”, basically). We also made a stop at the grocery store to pick up whatever this crazy swede needed during her stay 😉 and other things of course.

In the afternoon, I went with David to help him make wood chips out of hard wood from trees that he’d cut down. What we did was, we took one of his trucks (with trailer full of hard wood) and went to the storage units that they own and left it there. Then we went to pick up the chipper and brought it to the storage units as well so we could start doing the work. Well of course getting all the trucks and machines to the place was work as well but you know 😉. I really enjoy the feeling you get when you’ve done “heavy” work, like outside using your muscles! It makes coming home afterwards feeling sooo much better cause you know that you’ve done some really hard work!

When we came home that night it was time for dinner. Bbq! Have I told you guys that I LOVE bbq?😉 Karin and I made a delicious salad and David grilled the pork chops. He did that with some spices, but he also smoked them with apple wood! And Oh’boy was it good!! Wood chips from and apple tree that you just place in the grill together with the meat, basically. Why have my family not really opened up their eyes to some real good barbeque back in Sweden??? That is for sure something that’ll have to change! Just wait and see 😉 Another thing that I think made a difference for the pork chops is the fact that they were thick cut where as in Sweden when we, my family, have pork (baked in the oven) it’s usually cut in thin slices. The thick cut makes the meat much juicier, which I like!
Pork chops
My first day out of the state of Texas went by pretty fast and after dinner we called it a night since I’d gotten up at 2:50 am to go to the airport.
